* Weather. The Temperature highs will be in the high 80's / low 90's and the temperature lows will be in the mid to high 70's throughout the weekend. There's a small chance of rain Friday evening, and a 90% chance of about a half inch of rain Saturday morning, ending by 1 pm or 2 pm. Winds will be light in the high single digits mph throughout the weekend. The Humidity will be around 70% on Friday and Saturday, dropping to about 60% on Sunday. Click for Queens Weather.

* There's a free concert associated with the opening of the huge JAMAICA JAMS music & street festival, on Friday evening August 4th beginning about 6 pm and running to about 10 pm at the north end of Rufus King Park.

* JAMS Jamaica Avenue Festival - Friday & Saturday, August 3 & 4, 2018 - The Music Festival runs from 6 - 10 pm Friday and The Street Fair runs from 11 am to 7 pm Saturday. Friday evening in the northwest corner of Rufus King Park Friday for the music festival & on Saturday along Jamaica Avenue from Parsons Blvd to 169th Street. Music, food and street shopping. The biggest street fair in Queens. JAMS stands for Jamaica Arts & Music Summer.

The sixth PS1 Warm Up Party at PS1 MoMA on Jackson Avenue at & 46th Avenue in Long Island City begins at 3 pm in the afternoon and runs until 9 pm [art / $18 - $22].

* Saturday, August 4, 2018 - from 2 - 4 pm - York College Summer Jazz Concert. The York College Summer Jazz Program is tuitiion-free and showcases outstanding NYC high school musicians. Free. The Louis Armstrong House is located at 34-56 107th Street in Corona.

* August 4 & 5, 2018 - InSitu Dance Festival along the East River waterfront. At multiple parks including Hunters Point, Gantry State Park, Queensbridge Park, Rainey Park & Socrates Sculpture Park. Saturday & Sunday, August 4 & 5, 2018 from 1 pm - 8 pm / Free - INSITU Dance Festival - a two-day site-specific choreographed dance festival simultaneously performing at Socrates Sculpture Park, Gantry Park, Queensbridge Park and Hunters Point Park in Long Island City along the waterfront. Sunday - Ecuadorian Parade, Dominican Festival, InSitu Dance Fest & Concert in Travers Park

They organized InSitu, a dance festival in early July, where performances took place in Socrates Sculpture Park - as well as other parks along the East River waterfront.

* Sunday, August 5, 2018 - Ecuadorian Parade begins at 11 am and runs to 4 pm - Along Northern Blvd from 69th to 90th Street in Jackson Heights, East Elmhurst & Corona.

* Sunday, August 5, 2018 - Queens Dominican Festival 2018 begins at 12 noon in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

* Sunday, August 5, 2018 from 10 am - 6 pm - Junction Blvd Latin Culture Festival - Along Junction Blvd between Roosevelt and 35th Avenue. St fairs in Corona Queens.

* August 4 & 5, 2018 - InSitu Dance Festival along the East River waterfront. At multiple parks including Hunters Point, Gantry State Park, Queensbridge Park, Rainey Park & Socrates Sculpture Park. This month they are running a series about xyz [film / $9 / $11 / $15 - series ends xyz].

The Noguchi Museum at 9-01 33rd Road at Vernon Boulevard in LIC / Astoria is hosting Elena Moon Park in the return of its Bang on a Can summer concert music series [art / donations welcome]. Ms. Park is billed as,

"... a Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist with a passion for the preservation of diverse music and culture ..."

Friday, July 27, 2018 beginning shortly after 8 pm [dusk] - Classical Martial Arts / IP Man - Story about a Chinese master who taught and inspired many other masters, including Bruce Lee in Rufus King Park along Jamaica Avenue at 153rd Street.

 

The Panorama Music Festival began on Randall's Island and runs through the weekend, featuring numerous well known and national bands. Details to follow shortly.

 

Saturday - King Lear Sunnyside, Hip Hop at Socrates Astoria, PS1 Warm Up Party LIC

Saturday, July 28, 2018 from 3 - 7 pm / Free - Ralph McDaniels Hip Hop in the Park - "legendary VJ, producer, and hip hop pioneer Ralph McDaniels to present Hip Hop in the Park, a family-friendly festival celebrating the four elements of hip hop – emcees, DJs, dance troupes, and graffiti art – and 35 years of McDaniels’ groundbreaking music video program, Video Music Box. Sunday, July 29, 2018 from 2 - 5 pm / Free - Ballet Folklorico Mexicano de Nueva York Guelaguetza Festival - Socrates website tells us, "one of the most vivid expressions of Mexican culture: the 6th annual Guelaguetza Festival New York City comes to Socrates Sculpture Park for a cultural celebration of joy and pride through music, dance, and crafts from the eight regions of the state of Oaxaca. The festival is the most celebrated event in Mexico, brought to New York by Ballet Folklórico Mexicano de Nueva York (BFMNY) since 2013. BFMNY is a non-profit organization founded in 1983, celebrating 35 years of proudly promoting Mexican culture and tradition."

Sunday - Colombian Independence Day Parade, Jamaican Jerk Festival & Myrtle Avenue BID & ECCA

* From 12 noon to 2 pm there's the Colombia Independence Day Parade - Along Northern Blvd in Jackson Heights between 69th Street and 86th Street in Corona. There may be a street fair in Corona located at the end of the parade route, but I haven't been able to confirm.

* The Jamaica Jerk Festival returns to Queens from 12 noon to 8 pm. There's Carribean Food Festival with music at Roy Wilkins Park 177-01 Baisley Blvd at Merrick in Jamaica. Admission $36 / Children under 10 Free. Tickets at www.jerkfestivalny.com.

* From 12 noon - 6 pm the Myrtle Avenue Business Improvement District BID is hosting a festival along Myrtle Ave between Forest Ave and Fresh Pond Rd. The East Coast Car Association will also be at the Ridgewood St Fair with vintage autos on display.
