Our Side is a workshop for writers of all levels to explore issues of cultural identity, such as race, ethnicity, nationality, immigration, mixed heritage, assimilation, retro-acculturation, etc. We will read brief readings by contemporary writers, such as Amy Tan, Jhumpa Lahiri, Junot Diaz, and Edwidge Danticat; then we'll discuss the issues these writers address to prompt us to write about our own experiences. We'll also receive feedback on our writing to help polish it into short memoir stories or personal essays. The workshop will culminate with a reading to invited guests.
