George Bernard Shaw was one of the English language’s greatest playwrights, considered second only to Shakespeare and winning the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1925. His most famous plays include "Pygmalion," "Saint Joan," "Arms and the Man" and "Major Barbara." "Getting Married" is a delightful comedy full of the wit and verbal sparring for which Shaw is rightly famous. In Bishop Alfred Bridgenorth’s house in 1908, Edith, his sixth and youngest daughter, is about to be married. The bride and groom both develop cold feet after reading pamphlets revealing the dangers of marriage. A heated argument erupts over the pros and cons of wedded bliss. The play is a hilarious and satiric discourse on marriage, with all its blessings and pitfalls. The cast includes Timothy Burroughs, James Chamberlain, James Patrick Curran, Farah Diaz-Tello, Andrew Dinan, David Friedman, Joanna Friedman, Louise Guinther, Alexander Inagamov, Mike Miller, Kaitlyn Mitchell and Debbie Smith. Bill Logan makes his Gingerbread directing debut with this production. Costumes are by Joanna Friedman; sets by Rosemary and Sal Favia. "Getting Married" is presented for four performances only in the parish hall of the historic Saint Luke’s Church, 85 Greenway South in Forest Hills Gardens. Suggested donation is $15/person or $12/person for groups of 6 or more. For reservations (strongly recommended), call 718-268-7772 or visit www.gingerbreadplayers.org. Performances: Saturday, November 9, at 7:30 pm; Sunday, November 10, at 2:30 pm; Saturday, November 16, at 7:30 pm; and Sunday, November 17, at 2:30 pm. (Doors open one half hour before curtain.)
