Shea Stadium Demolition - Flushing Queens NY (relevance: 72.9%, date: Feb 18, 2009)
Shea Stadium Demolition Shea Going, Going Flushing Meadows Corona Park / February 14, 2009 / Queens Buzz. "All that's left of Shea Stadium is its pitching", remarked one fan who'd come out to shoot farewell photos of the legendary stadium. "Seems pitching is the first to come and the last to go", he continued. "I hope Citifield does better than the bank." Ah yes, who would have thought? I spoke to a foreman who said the demolition effort began after the first of the year and the structure was scheduled to be completely down, although not removed, by the middle of the month. Based on the looks of things, it seems they are pretty well on schedule. Click this link for the rest of the story about Shea Stadium / Citi Field in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

A Taste Of The World Queens - Citi Field Flushing NY (relevance: 52.2%, date: Apr 21, 2009)
A Taste Of The World 2009 - Queens Flushing / April 21, 2009. We had the opportunity to cover 'A Taste Of The World' at Citi Field on Tuesday night. Unfortunately we were confined to Caesar's Club which is the new bar and restaurant on the fifth floor of the complex, so this report will include only a small update on the new stadium. Sixty restaurants were included in the event, all of which were from a section of Queens. We sampled a number of their offerings and we'll provide a full review in the Restaurants section sometime this weekend or early next week. In the meantime, click this link for a very sketchy first draft of A Taste Of The World in Queens at Citi Field in Flushing NY.

Biz Expo 2012 - Queens Chamber Of Commerce May 22, 2012 / Flushing & Jackson Heights / Queens Business / Queens Buzz. I attended the Queens Chamber Biz Expo at CitiField on Tuesday. The event runs from 10 am - 3 pm, offering an opportunity for visitors to browse through the tables of between 50 - 75 or so businesses offering services in Queens. While some of the businesses at Biz Expo 2012 at CitiField were the larger firms with national brands, the majority of the companies in attendance were home grown Queens businesses, covering a range of products and services offered in the borough, including a number of relatively new companies in the food and energy fields. In the photo above is the entrance to the Queens Chamber of Commerce Biz Expo 2012 at Caesar's Club at CitiField in Flushing. Bikes & Bike Riding - Tour De Queens NY (relevance: 18.2%, date: Jul 12, 2009)
Tour De Queens - Photos Of Riders Flushing Queens /Queens Buzz. The second annual Tour De Queens departed on time today at 9.30 am for an 18 mile ride through the borough [the original plan was for a 24 mile course]. We'll be posting a photo album later today with tons of photos taken of the riders as they departed from the Queens Museum Of Art in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. The winds were blowing at between five and ten miles per hour which cooled things down, as the temperatures rose into the low eighties on a moderately humid day. Originally the course was to be outlined within the New York Panorama inside the Queens Museum Of Art as had been done last year. But given the current exhibition, Red Lines Housing Crisis, was already using the panaorama as part of the exhibit, outlining the course for the Tour De Queens was dropped. The course was finalized late Friday July 10th, but we are in the process of creating a map of it, so stay tuned. Click here to view photos and rea

Click here for Part I of our report series on Developments in Flushing Meadows Corona Park where we journeyed back to the Corona Ash Dump, immortalized in the Great Gatsby, and later transformed into a World’s Fair utopia by Robert Moses, Fiorello LaGuardia and the 1939 World’s Fair committee. The 1939 World’s Fair attracted over 40 million people, but lost over $100 million, as it opened the year Nazi Germany began invading its European neighbors, and while Japan was busy invading China. Nonetheless, in spite of a financial failure for the 1939 World’s Fair bondholders, the fair had enabled NYC and Robert Moses to complete phase one of his vision to transform the Corona Ash Dump into NYC’s premier city park, and build

Queens Borough President State of the Borough Address 2018 (relevance: 17%, date: Apr 14, 2018)
Queens State of the Borough Address 2018 Katz Delivers Her Fourth State of the Borough Address January 29, 2018 / Astoria Neighborhood / Queens Politics & Government / Queens Neighborhoods / Queens Buzz NYC. I headed over to the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts High School on a rather balmy January morning last Friday. The temperatures were unseasonably high in the 50’s and it was dry. I arrived a bit late for the speech, so I watched it on Youtube over the weekend. The first eleven minutes included introductory performances and speeches, including the Pledge of Allegiance, a singing of the National Anthem, a brief thanks by Gideon Frankel the Principal of the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts High School, and a call out to the local pols in attendance by Deputy Borough President Melva Miller. What U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer Didn't Say was Notable As far as I know, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer was not given any advance billing as being one of the speakers today, but he cam

Queens Fashion Week Arrives (relevance: 14.8%, date: Feb 19, 2010)
"Lights, Action, Camera" Queens Fashion Week Underway Models, Designers and Paparazzi Astoria & LIC / February 18, 2010. Some of the top designers with Queens connections collaborated with many up-and-coming Queens models to strut their stuff at the Queens Fashion Week opening night. The event took place tonight, after a week delay due to snowstorms, at the Standard Lofts, a recently renovated factory building turned residence along Northern Blvd at the foot of Steinway Street. About twenty eight models participated in the event, walking down the runway with beautiful new clothing, designed to complement their figures and forms. The models consisted of both females and males, nearly all of whom I believe were in their twenties. This is a report of the first day of the event, which took place on a Thursday evening. Friday is the young designers night, which will be followed on Saturday with a day of exhibits with the closing runway show on Saturday evening. Click here to view th

Queens Borough President NYC (relevance: 14.8%, date: Apr 21, 2016)
Queens State of the Borough Address Katz Delivers Her Third State of the Borough Address January 27, 2017 / Jamaica Neighborhood / Queens Politics & Government / Queens Buzz. Last Friday I headed down to Jamaicatown to watch Queens Borough President Melinda Katz deliver her third State of the Borough Address at the Milton Bassin Performing Arts Center at York College. I entered the auditorium shortly after she began her address where she was talking about her role in the good progress that the de Blasio Administration Education Department, headed by Carmen Farina, is having in moving the needle in enhancing both infrastructure and performance in the NYC Public School System. As an example about of third of the trailers have been removed, with plans for another third to be removed this year. This means kids are back in regular classrooms - after possibly decades long neglect by prior Administrations [need to confirm this statment]. I'll have more on the Queens Borough President's St
