No 4th Of July Fireworks At Jones Beach In 2010

Astoria Park 4th Of July Fireworks - Wednesday, June 30th

June 26, 2010 / LIC & Astoria / Queens Buzz. Last year they moved the Macy's 4th of July fireworks to the Hudson River on Manhattan's west side claiming they'd moved it there to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's discovery of the river.

No 4th Of July Fireworks In Queens - On July 4th, 2010

The Macy's 4th of July fireworks [2010] will be lit upon the Hudson River again this year. Nobody we spoke to could explain why the fireworks display was not returned to the East River, so we can only conjecture, given last year's statement, that this year they are commemorating the 401st year of Henry's discovery of the Hudson River. The net result is that there won't be any 4th of July fireworks 2010 along the East River on July 4th, but there will be fireworks along the East River on Wednesday, June 30th viewable from Astoria Park [see / click into story below].

No 4th Of July Fireworks 2010 On Jones Beach Long Island

This year, to upset the mix even further, there won't be any 4th of July fireworks at Jones Beach out on Long Island. My understanding is that this was a New York State budget cut.

Of course no Macy's 4th Of July fireworks on the East River and no 4th of July fireworks at Jones Beach are both very disappointing, but fortunately Queens residents do have a third option: the July 4th fireworks 2010 in Astoria Park on June 30th. New York City / November 26, 2009. We regret to inform you that there has been a serious catastrophic incident which occurred at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this year. Had we not witnessed this ourselves, you would likely not even hear about this. It is believed that unnamed government officials and quite possibly the event sponsors are trying to cover up this huge public relations snafu as it could mean the end of the parade as we know it. Queens / October 26, 2009. Boo. Yes, the fun, scary holiday of Halloween is here again. When the ghouls and goblins return to trick us if we don’t treat them. The holiday originated in Ireland, apparently hundreds of years ago to celebrate the end of the growing season. It was believed that during this time, both good and bad spirits were able to permeate the ether more easily than any other time of year. Hence people dressed in costumes, which made them appear scary, so that the harmful spirits would leave them alone.

Supreme Court Re-writes Constitution

Gives Legal Entities Rights To Meddle In Electoral Process

Queens / January 21, 2010. This is an opinion piece about the Supreme Court campaign finance ruling in favor of giving legal entities the right to spend unlimited sums of money in support of political candidates. Our opinion is that legal entities should not be allowed to spend any resource whatsoever in support of a political candidate.

If the people governing a legal entity [regardless of whether it is a corporation or a labor union] want to donate money or resource to a candidate, let them do so as individuals.  But disallow them from reaching into the pockets of their shareholders, employees or membership to further their own special interests.  Let these people [shareholders, employees and members] speak for themselves.

We compare this ruling to what happens in the book 'Animal Farm' written by author George Orwell in the middle of the 20th century, whereby some of the pigs in the book are made more equal than others.  Our argument is that these people already have too much power vis a vis everyone else, and their unchecked influence will be harmful to the republic.
