Holiday Lightings & Things To Do In Queens
Christmas Tree Lightings, Hanukkah Candle Lightings, & Kwanzaa in Queens
December 2012 / Astoria / Long Island City LIC / Sunnyside / Woodside / Jackson Heights / Corona / Flushing / Jamaica / / Queens Buzz. Holiday lighting festivals and ceremonies have been on the rise in Queens in recent years. While some date back many years, most are traditions that started within the past five or ten years.
What does an increase in holiday lightings mean? It means you have ample opportunity to go yourself, or with friends, or to take your kids to one or more of them. Each lighting is a bit different, as some are community and business-oriented, some are religiously oriented, a few have art organizations behind them, and some are backed by non-religious cultural organizations. And if I missed any, please let me know.
This is not meant to be a complete list, but rather a list of the holiday lighting events of which I’ve become aware since 2007. The holiday lighting events are organized by Queens neighborhood. Many include the serving of some beverage like hot chocolate and generally something to eat like cookies.
