Queensboro Bridge Uprooted From East River ... Appears To Be Heading West

August 27, 2011 [1 pm] / Queens NY and a little town in Kansas / Queens Buzz Exclusive - Part One Of Series During Hurricane Irene. I wouldn't have believed it myself if ace reporter, Dorothy Gale and her trusty side kick Toto, had not brought back this photo.

But seeing is believing, and there's no doubt that Hurricane Irene swept the Queensboro Bridge right out of its footings along the East River, and reportedly, the bridge was heading west ... possibly in the direction of Kansas, ace reporter Dorothy's home state.

We were unable to reach the Mayor and Queensborough President to find out when the bridge would be restored. However, according to unidentified sources who are closely attuned to this exclusive report, there are plans to track the bridge, find where it ultimately lands, transport it back here, and then work through the remainder of the weekend to restore the bridge so that it's operational - in tandem with the restoration of MTA transit services - late Sunday or sometime Monday morning.

Astoria Park 4th Of July Fireworks - Wednesday, June 30th

June 26, 2010 / LIC & Astoria / Queens Buzz. Last year they moved the Macy's 4th of July fireworks to the Hudson River on Manhattan's west side claiming they'd moved it there to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's discovery of the river.

No 4th Of July Fireworks In Queens - On July 4th, 2010

The Macy's 4th of July fireworks [2010] will be lit upon the Hudson River again this year. Nobody we spoke to could explain why the fireworks display was not returned to the East River, so we can only conjecture, given last year's statement, that this year they are commemorating the 401st year of Henry's discovery of the Hudson River. The net result is that there won't be any 4th of July fireworks 2010 along the East River on July 4th, but there will be fireworks along the East River on Wednesday, June 30th viewable from Astoria Park [see / click into story below].

No 4th Of July Fireworks 2010 On Jones Beach Long Island

This year, to upset the mix even further, there won't be any 4th of July fireworks at Jones Beach out on Long Island. My understanding is that this was a New York State budget cut.

Of course no Macy's 4th Of July fireworks on the East River and no 4th of July fireworks at Jones Beach are both very disappointing, but fortunately Queens residents do have a third option: the July 4th fireworks 2010 in Astoria Park on June 30th. New York City / November 26, 2009. We regret to inform you that there has been a serious catastrophic incident which occurred at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this year. Had we not witnessed this ourselves, you would likely not even hear about this. It is believed that unnamed government officials and quite possibly the event sponsors are trying to cover up this huge public relations snafu as it could mean the end of the parade as we know it.
