Summer is in full swing and a number of community groups in collaboration with the NYC Parks Department and frequently some measure of government funding, have put together a summer full of free theater in the park / parks. The theatrical productions listed below are designed for young and old alike and they're FREE.

  • July / August 2017 on Tuesdays it used to be Greek night with some entertainment, which began at 7.30 pm, but it's possible that this weekly entertainment program has been discontinued.

Crocheron Park is located in the Bayside neighborhood of Queens off the Cross Island Expressway at 35th Avenue at Corbett Road.

  • Thursday, July 27, 2017 beginning at 7 pm [kids] & 7.30 pm / Free - Henry IV - The play of Henry IV is a two part play about some of the history of England in the 1400's. The themes of the play include the coming of age of a young prince, as well as the struggle to keep power by the powerful.
  • Thursday, August 3, 2017 beginning at 7 pm [kids] & 7.30 pm / Free - Measure for Measure - The play of Measure for Measure is about a wise Duke, who departs his city to evaluate the integrity of the man left in charge. As you will find out, it seems the Duke had reason to doubt the man's integrity.

This year the Queens Theatre in the Park is hosting a number of films of great dance & theater performances produced by Lincoln Center in your Neighborhood.

 

  • Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 7 - 10 pm - PHILIPPINES.
  • At 7 pm a Special Preview of performances by the Queensboro Dance Festival participants [20 minutes]. At 7.30 pm the group Kidning Sindaw dances traditional Philippine dances in order to preserve part of their indiginous culture.
  • At 8 pm Transit (Hannah Espia, 2013, 93min, Tagalog & Hebrew with English ST) about "when the Israeli government begins deporting the children of migrant workers in 2009, a woman on an expired visa struggles to hide her half-Israeli daughter, Yael—a rebellious teenager caught up in a juvenile romance, and Joshua, a four-year old boy left in her care ... the film examines what it means to be a family and what it means to be a stranger, within one’s home and in a foreign land."
  • Thursday, July 20, 2017 from 7 - 10 pm - ECUADOR.
  • At 7 pm a concert by Chota Madre fusing indigenous African music with that of Ecuadorian Metizos [Spanish / Indian descent].
  • At 8 pm a film entitled DreamTown / Cuidad de los sueños (Betty Bastidas, 2016, 75 min, Spanish with English ST) about soccer players striving to succeed - free summer concerts & movies in front of the Queens Museum.
  • PLEASE NOTE THAT THE END OF JULY / AUGUST 2017 MOVIES HAVE NOT YET BEEN PROVIDED.

No Raindates. In case of rain, performances will be held inside Queens Theatre in the Park and admissions will be made on a first come, first serve basis. Seating capacity is 472.

In Association with Theatre 167.

Perdomo’s work has manifested as a modern presentation of dance and theater incorporating music, multi-media presentation, and practice from Ankoku Butoh."

  • Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 3 - 7 pm / Free - Festival del Huapango - "Ballet Folklórico Mexicano de Nueva York brings the art of traditional Mexican folkloric dance ... ahead of their collaboration with Socrates on the Día de los Muertos themed Halloween Harvest Festival on October 28. They will present the debut of their Festival del Huapango .. which is one of the most beautiful expressions of Mexico, 100% mestizo culture ... and is the second most important music, song, and dance event in Mexico after the Guelaguetza."
