Museum Of The Moving Image - Astoria
Astoria NY / January 2008. The Museum Of The Moving Image in Astoria was founded in 1988 on the site of the old Kaufman Astoria Studios, which was once home to Paramount Pictures on the east coast. The museum is dedicated to enhancing the understanding of America's moving pictures industry through the preservation of equipment and film, as well as programs designed to challenge and elucidate one's understanding of moving pictures and their role and influence in society.
The museum began a mega million dollar expansion effort in the Spring of 2008. Consequently, and unfortunately in the near term, the museum has moved most of its programming off site during the construction. Nonetheless the museum's ongoing exhibits are open to the public for the price of the museum admission. School and other tours can be arranged through the museum offices.
