Museum of the Moving Image - Astoria Queens NYC
Stories, Events and Reports about MoMI Since 2009
Virtual Reality, Indie Cade, Moving Image Art Exhibits, Queens World Film Festival, Museum Capabilities & History and MoMI Programs such as Rewired State & Political Advertising Workshop
This section is dedicated to stories we've posted about the Museum of the Moving Image in the Astoria neighborhood of Queens. The stories begin with a Warhold Retrospective in 2008, followed by a visit by actor John Turturro the same year. In early 2010 we did an overview of the museum not long before it was to be renovated. In 2012 we did a story on the Persona Performa film and performance and later that year we also did a piece on the opening of the animated film, The Rise of the Guardians, which included talks by some of the people who produced it. In 2015 we did a report on the Mad Men exhibit which included one of the sets shown inside the museum.
In 2013 we did two short pieces shown separately from the longer stories, which you can find further below. One was about the hosting of the Indie Cade event and another event / program for youth called Rewired State.
The events contained herein are those mainly organized by the Museum of the Moving Image and about cinema / film / the movies. The Museum of the Moving Image has hosted other community related events including business conferences, a presentation on the Affordable Care Act in 2013 and the Queens World Film Festival [QWFF] which we may add to this section a bit later. The QWFF is owned and managed by an independent group.
Columbus Day Parades - Italian Culture & Cuisine in Astoria
Beautiful Day to Enjoy a Parade Along Steinway & 30th Streets
The 39th Annual Columbus Day Parade returned to Astoria last weekend. People lined the streets of Astoria to watch the parade which included a number of local Italian organizations including soccer groups, Italian clubs, school groups and floats.
A number of local government representatives also marched in the parade including NYC Councilman Constantinides, Assemblywoman Simotas and Senator Gianaris.
The weather cooperated, as it was in the 60's and sunny and dry. The parade commemorates Italian Christopher Columbus' discovery of America in 1492. And the parade was organized by the Astoria Chapter of the Federation of Italian Americans.
The photo above was taken in a prior year. Click here to view reports of prior parades in Astoria including photos.
