Noguchi Museum In Long Island City
September 12: Second Sundays - Tristan Perich Electronic Keyboard
At 3 pm on the Second Sunday of every month the Noguchi Museum hosts music or a discussion in either the garden or the lower level meeting room. In September, Treistan Perich will perform on the electronic keyboard. His music is an artistic exploration of sound. Free with admission.
Thru October 24, 2010: Noguchi ReINstalled
To celebrate the re-opening of the newly done garden, the complete collection of Noguchi will be on display for the first time since Spring 2002.

PS1 Art Exhibits in Long Island City
September 4: Last PS1 Warm Up Party & End Of Young Architects 2010
From 2 - 9 pm. Every Saturday PS1 hosts a mix of live and DJ music in its courtyard. This year in the courtyard, the Young Architects Art installation is entitled Pole Dance, which is an acoustically tuned mix of nets, poles, balls and water. Access included with admission. Ends 9/6.
Through October 18: Five Year Review / Cinema
This exhibit focuses on some of the exhibitions, concerts, movies, fashion, design and happenings of the last fifty years as viewed by a group of artists / curators. As part of this program the vault in the basement has been converted into a movie theater where performances and movies will be shown as follows: 9/4 & 11 - Andrew Lampert performance, 9/18 - Trisha Baga performance, 9/23 - 9/27 exhibition of art work by two artists with 3 pm screening daily, 9/30 - 10/4 exhibition of art work by seven artists with 3 pm screening daily, 10/7 - 10/11 exhibition of artwork by two artists with 3 pm screening, 10/15 - 10/17 Redmond Entwistle.
Through October 18: Greater New York 2010
This exhibit showcases 68 living artists in the NYC area. It includes exhibits, workshops, live performances, film and music. There's a 5 year review spanning the past 50 years of art, a rotating exhibit gallery, film in the basement and more. A couple of highlights include an encased simulated rain forest and an Atlas of Radical Cartography showing global interconnectedness, such as copper from Nevada going to smelters in China.

Queens Museum Of Art [QMA] Exhibit in Flushing
September 17: Gasland
Starts at 7 pm. A film about the environment done in conjunction with 'Flow Slow' Floating River conference. Flow Slow is an artistic event designed to highlight the environmental disaster known as the Delaware River and runs from 9/17 - 19. Free with admission. Perennial Exhibits: Panorama Of New York City & Tiffany Glass Collection
The panorama of the city of New York, created for the 1964 World's Fair and updated in the 90's is impressive to see at least once in a lifetime. And they also have a Tiffany Glass collection.
The first Sunday of every month is free from 1 - 4 pm, compliments of the MetLife Foundation. Flux Factory - Long Island City
September 4 & 5: Construction Of Happiness, Crocheting & Irrational Geographic
From 12 noon to 6 pm. Exhibits by three outgoing residents. One exhibit focuses on the 'personal construction of happiness' depicted in artifacts from one's life, another is a video installation of crocheting taken ten years apart which reflects shared concerns of artists, and the third is a mixed media with landscape art and the environment as the theme.
September 9: Flux Thursdays
This generally begins around 8 pm on the second Thursday of the month. It's an 'artists open mic' and is largely informal. If the info about the particulars of the next event arrives in a timely fashion, we try to post it. Admission free, but donations welcome.
September 18: Factory Who?
This is a four room exhibit, including performance art. The overriding theme will be the people involved in Andy Warhol's Factory. All artistic venues have been invited, with the deadline for submissions August 30.

From 12 - 5 pm. This is a scheduled tour through Asian cuisine hosted by about a dozen foodies at the Sheraton LaGuardia at 135-20 39th Avenue in Flushing [just a few blocks northwest of Main Street #7 subway stop]. Admission $60.
September 20 - 23 and 27 - 30: Queens Restaurant Weeks
This year about 100 restaurants are expected to participate. Generally the participating restaurants offer a fixed lunch, dinner or both for a generally low price [last year it was three course meals for $25 / $35]. Check out www.discoverqueens.info for details.

Century Bike Ride In Queens
September 12: Century Bike Ride
Starts at 5.30 am in Central Park and at 6.30 am in Prospect Park. The century bike ride is the only all urban 100 mile bike ride in the nation. But you don't have to ride the 100 miles to participate as they have 75, 55, 35 and 15 mile routes. Registration fees are $65 Adults / $55 TA Members / $35 kids, which you can do online before 9/10.
