Noguchi Museum In Long Island City
February 13: Second Sundays - Woodstock Artists' Colony
At 3 pm. Art Professor Tom Wolf will talk about the influence on Noguchi, of other Asian artists who gathered around the Woodstock area. One of Noguchi's famed works, Lynched Figure [see photo], was created while he was in Woodstock. Free with admission.
Through April 24: On Becoming An Artist: Isamu Noguchi And His Contemporaries, 1922 - 1960
This exhibit explores Isamu Noguchi's career and early development. It includes earlier works and his interactions with; as well as influences on and by forty of his contemporaries.

Paris Abstractions and Peking Brush Paintings are on exhibit from the museum's permanent collection.

Interactive video game installation by Beijing artist who plays off of Super Mario Brothers and Street Fighter II. The game includes government propaganda and the hero is a Red Army soldier.

We live inside of and surrounded by buildings. In this exhibit ten artists explore our association / interaction with buildings as an art form with personality. QMA cites its own building as one with multiple personalities having first been erected as the pavillion for the 1939 World's Fair, after which it became home to the first United Nations convocation and is now an art museum.
Perennial Exhibits: Panorama Of New York City & Tiffany Glass Collection
The panorama of the city of New York, created for the 1964 World's Fair and updated in the 90's is impressive to see at least once in a lifetime. And they also have a Tiffany Glass collection.

February 12: Chinese New Year Parade
Begins at 11 am and generally lasts two hours. The new year is based on the lunar year [America is on the solar year] and this is the year of the Rabbit, a generally lucky sign.
The parade route generally starts along 37th Avenue and runs south along Union Street to Sanford Avenue, then comes back up along Kissena to Main Street and ends at 37th Avenue near the Crossing Arts mall.
