May 21: Street Fair / Open Studios / All Day Improv
They all begin around 12 noon. The first two run until 6 pm and the All Day Improv runs until 11.30 pm [see theater]. The Street Fair is in front of Silver Cup Studios and the Improv is at Secret Theatre. The open studios are scattered around LIC.
May 22: eGarage / Edible Art / Krypton Neon / Closing Party
Performances will be given at eGarage at 44-02 23rd St on Friday through Sunday and there's an edible art party at Ten10 on 10-10 47th Road [6-9 Fri / 1 - 7 Sat / 1 - 5 Sun]. There's the Kenny Greenberg show at Krypton Neon on 5-51 47th Avenue in the afternoon. The closing party starts at 6 pm at the Secret Theatre.
Noguchi Museum In Long Island City
May 8: Second Sundays - Niho Kozuru
At 3 pm. A fifth generation Japanese ceramacist talks about her work. Free with admission.
May 25 - Sept 18 : Animal Drawings From Noguchi's Travels
An exhibit highlighting some of Noguchi's animal sketches from his travels.

May 22: Opening Celebrations
From 12 noon - 6 pm. Opening of The Holy Mountain and Heads, two new exhibits which run through June 30th and August 15th respectively. The first is a film about the occult, metaphysics and psychic complexity, while the latter is an exhibit of sculptures of heads and psychology.
Through August 8: Modern Women Single Channel
This is an exhibit in videos done by eleven women from around the globe from the 1960's to the 1990's.
Through August 8: Laurel Nakadate - Only The Lonely
Video & film artist and photographer Nakadate explores loneliness by filming her entry into young women's bedrooms and instructs them to strip down to their underwear in front of the camera.

May 12: What A Billion Muslims Think
Begins at 7 pm. This is a documentary done in tandem with the Gallup Polling organization to find out what Muslims really think, versus how they're portrayed in the media. Polling was done in 35 predominantly Muslim nations as well as polling minority Muslims in countries like the U.S. and Great Britain.

On Friday and Saturday MOMI will present Jeanne Dielman, the story of a mother turned prostitute. On Sunday the showing of a five hour long mini-series entitled Mildred Pierce which is about a Depression-era mother who goes to work to maintain the family's social standing. It seems someone's mother has more work to do.

The following is a list of street fairs in Queens this week. You may also click here to view our compendium of street fairs in Queens which run from April through October. All street fairs run from 11 am - 6 pm unless otherwise noted.
May 28: Greenpoint Avenue Festival
From 11 am - 6 pm. Along Greenpoint Avenue from Queens Blvd to 44th Street in Sunnyside.
May 29: Flushing Festival
From 11 am - 6 pm. Along Sanford from Main Street to Kissena in Flushing.
May 30: Broadway Astoria Merchants
From 11 am - 6 pm. Along Broadway Street from Steinway St to Crescent St in Astoria.
Thalia Spanish Theatre In Sunnyside NY
May 6 - June 19: No Problemo Amigo
Starts at 8 pm on Fridays & Saturdays, and 4 pm on Sundays. A comedy based on original work about Jorge who is an office worker by day and a superhero by night. With English Supertitles. Admission $25 / $22.

May 5 - 21: The Human Comedy
Begins at 8 pm Thursday - Saturday, also 2 pm Saturday. This is a coming of age musical about a telegram messenger during WWII, whose mother is struggling with the recent loss of her husband, his older brother is in the army, his sister daydreams about romance and his younger brother is trying to understand why his father had to die. Admission $18.

The Secret Theatre In LIC Long Island City
May 21 & 22: All Day Improv & LICAO Closing Party
From 12.30 to 11.30 pm Saturday and beginning at 6 pm Sunday. Six improv acts over the course of 11 hours including UCB's Standard Oil, Chicago's International Stinger, Face Off Unlimited, iMusical The Reunion Show, Magnet's Chet Watkins and Hustlebot. Admission $15.
May 10, 11 & 15: Queens Fringe Dance Showcase & Festival
Begins at 8 pm except Sunday when it begins at 2 pm. Dance festival. Admission $TBD.
May 12 - 14, 18 - 20, 22, 25, 26: MidSummer Night's Dream
Begins at 7 pm, except 5/22 when it begins at 2 pm. Shakespeare's play. Admission $TBD.

The Chocolate Factory In Long Island City
May 11 - 21: Before And After The Performance
At 8 pm Weds - Sat. In this performance Ryutaro Mishima explores performers via photographs taken before and after performing, studying the ephemeral character of performance. Admission $15.
