Noguchi Museum In Long Island City
August 5 & September 2: First Fridays
Museum stays open until 8 pm with a pay-what-you-wish admission. There's a cash wine & beer bar and the garden is a great place to relax.
August 14: Second Sundays
Music in the Garden at 3 pm. On September 11 a digital violinist and a maestro on the woodwinds team up to entertain. Free with admission.
Through Sept 18 : Animal Drawings From Noguchi's Travels & Highlights From The Collection
An exhibit highlighting some of Noguchi's animal sketches from his travels. Complemented by the ongoing exhibit which includes a mix of rotating sculptures and objects.
The museum is open Wednesday through Friday 10 am - 5 pm, and Saturday - Sunday 11 am - 6 pm. All programs are free with admission $10 / $5. First Friday of every month, pay what you wish. Click here to view a prior story about the Noguchi Museum in Queens.

PS1 Art Exhibits in Long Island City
August 6, 13, 20 & 27: PS1 Warm Up Parties
The new court yard installation, Holding Pattern by Interboro Partners, has been opened. Warm Up Parties began July 2nd and run into September. Warm Up Parties start at 2 pm and run until 9 pm. August: Ongoing Exhibits
Modern Women Single Channel runs through August 8th. This is an exhibit in videos done by eleven women from around the globe from the 1960's to the 1990's.
Heads runs August 15th. This is an exhibit of sculptures of heads and psychology.
Only The Lonely is done by video & film artist and photographer Nakadate explores loneliness by filming her entry into young women's bedrooms and instructs them to strip down to their underwear in front of the camera.
Through September 3: Any Ever
This is a video installation by Ryan Trecartin which was shot in Miami and includes seven non-connected movies dispersed through a number of exhibit rooms on the first floor.

September 10: Opening Reception Fall Exhibits
At 5 pm. Opening reception for the fall exhibit by Sanford Biggers entitled Cosmic Voodoo Circus. Admission is usually a donation of between $5 - $15.

Queens Museum Of Art [QMA] Exhibit in Flushing

From 6.30 - 10 pm. This is a wonderful program for both adults and children, especially inhabitants of Queens. The program explores different cultures from around the world via indigenous films [frequently meaning English subtitles] along with dance, theatrical and musical performances [although likely not all three in any single event]. From 3 - 6 pm. Opening reception for new exhibit that explores the 'specialness' of things saved ... or are they really just junk.
Perennial Exhibits: Panorama Of New York City & Tiffany Glass Collection
A panorama of the city of New York, created for the 1964 World's Fair, which was updated in the 1990's. Also a Tiffany Glass collection.
Open Wednesday - Friday 10 am - 5 pm; Saturday & Sunday 12 pm - 5 pm. Admission $5 / $2. The first Sunday of every month is free from 1 - 4 pm, compliments of the MetLife Foundation. Thursday, Friday & Saturday evenings - probably starting somewhere between 6 and 8 pm. They're hosting films, lectures and what not on a floating boat / barge at Marina 59 in Far Rockaway in Queens. You can stay overnight on the boatel for $50 - $120 per night.
July 30: Shrines Of The Gowanus Canal
Workshop to build a shrine to EPA superfund site the Gowanus Canal. At Gowanus Studio Space at 166 7th Street in Brooklyn.

And you can rent skates to use the world ice arena [both in the same buillding].
