January 6: First Fridays
Museum stays open until 8 pm with a pay-what-you-wish admission. There's a cash wine & beer bar and the garden is a great place to relax.

Through April 22, 2012 : A Civic Action
Isamu Noguchi and Mark di Suvero founded the Noguchi Museum and Socrates Sculpture Park in the 80's in what was then a pretty obscure neighborhood. Things have changed significantly since then and this exhibit highlights four artists' vision of the future for the neighborhing Astoria / LIC community.
The museum is open Wednesday through Friday 10 am - 5 pm, and Saturday - Sunday 11 am - 6 pm. All programs are free with admission $10 / $5. First Friday of every month, pay what you wish. Click here to view a prior story about the Noguchi Museum in Queens.

PS1 Art Exhibits in Long Island City
January 14: Anthology
From 3 - 4 pm. Clifford Owens will perform a number of scores prepared by contemporary African American artists exploring a multitude of themes.
January 29: Henry Taylor
From 12 noon to 6 pm. A day of art, lectures and food. Contemporary artist Henry Taylor paints on canvasses and everything else, lending a unique perspective to his work.
Ending January 31: Chim Pom, Surasi Kusolwong, Francis Stark & Rania Stephan
In order presented: Chim Pom is a Japanese artist collective that explores social issues and this exhibit is about the 2011 nuclear incident in Japan. Surasi, a Thai artist, explores looking for treasure in industrial / consumer waste and invites you to participate. Francis Stark is an animated video exploring changing relationships and behaviors arising from modern methods of communication. Lebanese film artist, Stephan explores the life of Egyptian actress Soad Hosni and the modern Arab woman.

January 15: Winter Exhibitions
From 5 - 7 pm. Scene, Hold, Ballast is a collaborative work involving film and sculpture and what appeared to be a very self-absorbed description of the works. In Practice with the theme you never look at me from the place from which I wee you is about location / contextual based perception. Admission is usually a donation of between $5 - $15.

January 12: Flux Thursdays
At 8 pm on the second Thursday night of every month, the Flux Factory holds a potluck dinner / art symposium. This month there will be four performance presentations. One explores going crazy and another the 'brash and tiresome' life of an artist. Free with food contribution.

Opening reception from 7 - 10 pm. This exhibit is an exploration of weaponry as a means to 'nurture the human ego or to satiate one's thirst for power', but in the end the symbol of relinquished humanity for tyrannical infamy. Admission free.

January 28: Words Become Air - LIC Artists
