Noguchi Museum In Long Island City
April 8: Second Sundays
At 3 pm. A discussion about the neighborhood vision exhibit [see below]. Free with admission.
Through April 22, 2012 : A Civic Action
Isamu Noguchi and Mark di Suvero founded the Noguchi Museum and Socrates Sculpture Park in the 80's in what was then a pretty obscure neighborhood. Things have changed significantly since then and this exhibit highlights four artists' vision of the future for the neighborhing Astoria / LIC community.
The museum is open Wednesday through Friday 10 am - 5 pm, and Saturday - Sunday 11 am - 6 pm. All programs are free with admission $10 / $5. First Friday of every month, pay what you wish. Click here to view a prior story about the Noguchi Museum in Queens.

PS1 Art Exhibits in Long Island City
Through May 14: Darren Bader Images
This exhibit contains sculptures of animals. The intent is to help animal shelters and save species. Salads will be served Mondays at 2.15 pm and Saturdays at 3 pm.
Through April: Henry Taylor
Contemporary artist Henry Taylor paints on canvasses and everything else, like bottles, cans, shirts etcetera, lending a unique perspective to his work.

Greek Orthodox Holy Friday Processions
April 13: St Demetrios, St Catherine & St George, St Markella
Begins at 10 pm for St Markella & at 9 pm for the others. Traditional Greek Orthodox Holy Friday procession through the streets of Astoria. The processions commemorate the death of Jesus. The processions begin and end at each church and generally last between 30 to 60 minutes.

From 10 am - 5 pm. This is a ping pong competition is being held at the Chinese Community Center at 43-17 Union Street, Level C in Flushing. We're uncertain of this, but might be free admission.
Al Oerter Recreational Facility
April: Public Indoor Basketball Court, Computer Labs, Exercise Rooms, Handball Court, Dance Studio & Ping Pong Tables In Queens
This is a relatively new facility. They are open Monday through Friday 6 A - 10 P and Saturday 9 A - 5 P. Closed for important holidays. Bring padlock for locker and a change of clothes for athletics.

NYC Parks – Indoor Swimming & Ice Skating In Queens NY
April: Aquatic Center & World Class Ice Rink
Both facilities open year 'round. Bring a swimming suit, a swimming cap and quality padlock to be admitted to the pool. And you can rent skates to use the world ice arena [both in the same buillding]. The pool is open Monday - Friday from 6 am to 10 pm, Saturday from 9 am - 10 pm and Sunday from 9 am - 8 pm. Annual Fee is $75 adults / $10 seniors / and under 18 is free.

At 7.30 pm. Matinees at 2.30 pm on the 12th, 18th & 19th. Original production of script about rural teenagers coming to modern day Istanbul. The play continues to evolve into a universal process of the rural poor coming to the city to find a better life. On-Stage Theater. Admission $10.

Begins at 7.30 pm. Original production, including autobiographical accounts by descendants of slaves. Admissions range $15 / $20 / $10.
