Noguchi Museum In Long Island City
November 4: First Fridays
Museum stays open until 8 pm with a pay-what-you-wish admission. There's a cash wine & beer bar and the garden is a great place to relax.
November 13: Second Sundays
At 3 pm. Generally a musical performance or talk. Free with admission.
Through April 22, 2012 : A Civic Action
Isamu Noguchi and Mark di Suvero founded the Noguchi Museum and Socrates Sculpture Park in the 80's in what was then a pretty obscure neighborhood. Things have changed significantly since then and this exhibit highlights four artists' vision of the future for the neighborhing Astoria / LIC community.
The museum is open Wednesday through Friday 10 am - 5 pm, and Saturday - Sunday 11 am - 6 pm. All programs are free with admission $10 / $5. First Friday of every month, pay what you wish. Click here to view a prior story about the Noguchi Museum in Queens.

Opening day of the winter season. The weekend art performances start in January.
November - January 9, 2012: Ongoing Exhibit - September 11
An exhibit featuring 41 artists exploring the cultural impact of the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001. The exhibit avoids images of the attack itself, focusing on the cultural impact by looking at art before and after the attacks.

Exhibit by Sanford Biggers entitled Cosmic Voodoo Circus. Admission is usually a donation of between $5 - $15.

November 10: Flux Thursdays
At 8 pm on the second Thursday night of every month, the Flux Factory holds a potluck dinner / art symposium. Four artists will talk about recent and ongoing works covering various themes and approaches. Free with food contribution.

November 12: Take Root - Jenni Hong Dance & Anne Burnidge Dance
Starts at 8.30 pm. In the first performance Jenni Hong Dance troupe explores the selflessness and selfishness associated with connecting with others. In the second performance Anne Burnidge Dance troupe explores the body as a sacred structure. Admission $15.

Museum Of The Moving Image In Astoria NY
November 10 & 11: Ming Wong's Persona Performa
Begins at 8 pm. Inspired by a Bergman film, Ming Wong leads the audience through the Museum of the Moving Image and does several short takes which are then played back in the main theater. Admission $30 / $25 members.
Ongoing: Behind The Screen
Behind The Screen is the MOMI collection of core exhibits are about how films / movies are produced, including showcasing vintage equipment. This is a beautiful, relatively new facility. They are open Monday through Friday 6 A - 10 P and Saturday 9 A - 5 P. Closed for important holidays. Bring padlock for locker and a change of clothes for athletics.

Both facilities open year 'round. Bring a swimming suit, a swimming cap and quality padlock to be admitted to the pool. And you can rent skates to use the world ice arena [both in the same buillding]. The Chocolate Factory In Long Island City
November 2 - 5: Target :: Furnace
At 8 pm Wednesday through Saturday. This is a premiere of a piece about the warrior heart. The dancer has a martial arts background and it is choreographed to music including bassoon, violin and percussion. Admission $15.
Nov 16 - 19: intuition is preceding over my understanding
Starts at 8 pm. Solo performance by Chase Granoff about time and place, present and past. Admission $15.

November 2 - 5: Maids - Tick Tock
Begins at 8 pm. Last installment of year long theater series exploring audience interaction and influence on theater. Based on a Jean Genet play. Admission $5. Limited seating but can rsvp in advance at projectmaids [at] yahoo.com.
November 15: One Armed Man
Begins at 7.30 pm. Story about a writer investigating the past regarding the alibi of a man accused in a 1915 murder. The story revolves around dreams and psychology. Admission $20 / $15 advance / $10 students. Little Theater.

November 3 - 19: A Hard Wall At High Speed
At 8 pm Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays with a matinee at 4 pm on Saturdays. This is the premiere production of a new play about how a Florida charter pilot turns his life upside down when he makes a serious error in judgment. The play includes a number of notable NYC actors and actresses. Admission $18.

November 5: The Lynching of Emmitt Till
Begins at 3 pm and 7 pm. This is the story about a young Chicagoan who went down to Mississippi to visit relatives. He was advised by his relatives to be cautious around whites. What happened to arouse the white community's anger is a disputed, but what happened to Emmitt Till is not. The sad story of prejudice in the deep south in the mid 20th century. Admission $20 / $10 Seniors & Students.

The Secret Theatre In LIC Long Island City
November 4 & 5: No Exit
Begins promptly at 8 pm - No Late Seating. A play based on Jean Paul Sartre's famous quotation, "Hell is other people." A play, within a gallery, within a film about three dead people in a room awaiting their eternal damnation. Admission $20.
November 10 - 20: Gutenberg! The Musical
At 8 pm Thursdays through Saturdays, also matinees at 3 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The comedic story of two writer / singers who are working on a musical about the invention of the printing press by Johann Gutenberg. Their play includes a scheming monk who tries to stop Johann and a beautiful woman who loves him, and the two writers perform the play while trying to convince the audience of producers (you) to give them a Broadway contract. Admission $18.
November 19 & 20: Sounds Of Arts
